Looks for Men: Holiday Parties

Guys, if you're reading this, chances are, you're all growed up.  Yep.  Dog days are over and you probably have gotten invited to a few Christmas parties this holiday season.  However, it's not the usual "tacky Christmas sweater" party where you're required to dress heinously (except I'm totally going to one this weekend and pretty stoked about it).  Now, my friends, you're being invited to more sophisticated affairs.  Maybe it's just a nice house party, or perhaps you're attending your office's annual Christmas party!

A word to the wise: you don't have to wear green and red to be festive (but it sure does help).  And please don't be black out drunk before you get there... it's always bad news.

So the other night, when I was watching/enjoying the Christmas episode of Glee (since, apparently, that's all I ever watch), I happened to notice an outfit Mr. Schue was wearing at the end of the episode and it got me all inspired, y'all!

Here's some looks to rock this holiday season:

Henleys with a vest
Guys, if you want to show off your "credentials" and entice some "potentials," BUY A HENLEY tee.  There is nothing more flattering (if you have muscle, that is... otherwise you'll end up looking like Hamilton Porter from The Sandlot).  And, I especially recommend leaving the top button unbuttoned and throwing a vest over top.  You've immediately dressed up the look with a single item, and you can take it off for a more casual style at the end of the night.  I don't get why men with nice chests and arms don't attempt to show them off!  Talk about swoon-city.

Festive vests and ties
Take things up a notch with a black dress shirt and red silk tie.  The red pops and the black is sleek and chic.  Say you're heading to a wine and cheese affair -- pair a cable knit sweater with a merry green & red tie (middle) for a preppier take on things.  Or, head to hipsterville with the wool tie from Brooks Brothers (right).    The shoes featured are by UGG Australia.  Yeah, I know you all thought UGGs were just for the ladies, but those shoes are pretty sweet if I do say so myself.

An Alternative Approach
Maybe you're hitting up a more laid-back Christmas party and don't want to stick out like a sore thumb.  I always say that beanies take things down a few notches, and the faux-flannel reminds me of a lumberjack, which reminds me of rugged, outdoorsy... and somehow that reminds me of Urban Outfitters, which DEFINES casual, hipster and alternative (in my opinion).  And yes, those shoes ARE UGGs!  FOR MEN.  Tom Brady is the new spokesperson for men's UGGs, but I happen to think the ones he sports are too femme.  The ones I picked are more like combat boots, but if you live in areas that have snowfall, they have a sheepskin lining to keep your feet warm and a rubber outsole for traction and durability.
